Paris Mountain is a special district within Greenville County, referred to as the ESD-PM (environmentally sensitive district of Paris Mountain). The purpose is to protect and assure the unique quality of this mountain landscape. The development saturation is based on a 1.10 dwelling per acre rule.
Another feature of the ESD-PM is the existence of TDRs (transferable development rights). This allows a greater saturation of dwellings within a given tract in exchange for the owner giving up the right to develop in certain portions of their acreage. This space remains green space which is a win; win for any property owner, builder, or developer.
There is one single road that transverses across the length of Paris Mountain, rimming along its ridge from the Poinsett Highway to the opposite end of the mountain and State Park Road. Altamont Road is a state maintained roadway and dates back many years. It has very recently been re-paved and is approximately eight miles in total length.
